If you know your percentage of marks obtained, then you can convert percent into CGPA. Here’s the formula to calculate:

(Percentage Value / 9.5) = Final Value(CGPA)

The above formula works if the grading scale of your college or university is 10.0. If your grading scale is 4.0 or 5.0, then you can divide your percentage by your grading scale point.

What is CGPA?

It is a grading system used by educational institutions to evaluate a student’s academic performance over a period of time, taking into account the grades obtained in all courses. For calculating the CGPA, each course is assigned a grade point, e.g., A, B, C, D, or F. Each country has its scale used for assigning grade points. Mostly, it is a 4.0 or 10.0 grading scale.

Understanding grading system

A grading system is a process used by institutions to calculate the overall academic performance of a student. It assigns a score to a student’s work based on a few things like their knowledge, skills, and understanding of a particular course or subject. Although there is a variety of grading systems used in the world, the following are a few of the most commonly used:

1: Percentage-based grading system

In this grading system, a student’s overall performance is calculated based on the total percentage of correct answers. If someone answers 70% of the questions correctly, their grade will be 70%.

2: Point-based grading system:

In a point-based grading system, a student’s performance is evaluated based on a point scale. Measurements are often rated on a scale of 0 to 100, or 0 to 10. After that, the student’s performance is converted to a percentage.

3: Pass/Fail system:

This is a straightforward system where a student’s performance is evaluated based on pass or fail. There are no percentage or letter grades assigned to their performance.

4: CGPA-based system:

One of my favorite system. CGPA stands for Cumulative Grade Point Average. It is calculated by adding the grade points for all the courses/semesters and dividing it by the total number of courses.

5: Letter-based grading system:

Letter grades are assigned to a student’s performance in this system. For example, A, B, C, D, and F are the most common letter grades in India and US. Each letter grade depends on the specific range of marks or percentage.
